THE HISTORY OF THE INSCRIPTION
The oldest mosaic of St. Mark's, dating back to the 13th century, is a unique work that captures the solemn oath of Doge Lorenzo Tiepolo in 1268 during the translation of the relic of St. Mark from the Doge's Palace to the basilica. On the sides, the presence of the famous Horses of St. Mark certifies the completion of the basilica's reconstruction, accompanied by the Latin inscriptions 'Collocat ung dignis plebs laudibus et colit hymnis ut venetos semper servet ab hoste suos' (Placed this relic for the praises and veneration of the people so that it may forever defend the Venetian people from their enemies). The same phrase is expertly engraved on the artisanal leather strap.

Inspired by the Horses of St. Mark's
The Nereide Bronze draws inspiration from the magnificence of the Horses of St. Mark's, a symbol of power and prosperity in Venice. These bronze horses, forged in ancient Greece, found their home on the Basilica of St. Mark in the 13th century, narrating the story of conquests and greatness of the lagoon city. The art of bronze craftsmanship, an integral part of Venetian know-how, is honored by this unique Nereide, combining the grandeur of the past with contemporary artisanal mastery.
